Melanie and the Rotary Club of Greater Houston Veterans are active stewards of this facility and its veteran community. The club planted and maintains the Hope Garden on the hospital grounds, places over 200 American flags at the hospital each Veterans Day and Memorial Day, and participates in Flags for Fallen Vets and Wreaths Across America at the National VA Cemetery. A veteran nonprofit founded by Melanie Dubendorff supporting veteran nonprofits across Greater Houston and hosting real estate and financial education classes for veterans. Through MAD for Vets, Melanie has supported grocery distribution to over 200 veteran families in Galveston County every year since 2022 — and in July 2026, the program is expanding into Fort Bend County. Melanie serves as District Co-Chair at the Rotary International District 5890 level and Site Director for the Katy location of Operation Turkey. In 2025, the program delivered over 14,000 meals across four locations in Greater Houston, with the Katy site exceeding its goal by 500 meals.
Richard A. Anderson Home for Veterans

The Richard A. Anderson Home for Veterans provides housing and supportive services for veterans in the Greater Houston community. Melanie and the MAD Properties Group team are regular visitors — hosting Easter and Christmas parties, sitting with residents to hear their stories, and providing food items, toiletries, snacks, books, clothing, shirts, socks, and bodega supplies several times a year.
But the work goes deeper than visits and donations. Melanie is actively participating in the Veterans History Project — interviewing willing residents, recording their firsthand recollections of military service, and submitting those recordings to the United States Library of Congress for permanent preservation. The Veterans History Project collects, preserves, and makes accessible the firsthand accounts of U.S. military veterans who served from World War I through recent conflicts and peacekeeping missions, so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand what they saw, did, and felt during their service.
These are not transactions. These are relationships — built over years of showing up, listening, and making sure the veterans at the Richard A. Anderson Home know they are seen, valued, and remembered.
